A 24 minute composition of field recordings made during the 2025 Harvest at Gazzetta Wines, in Bolsena, Italy. An attempt to capture the wider terroir through sound. In listening to the grittiness of the landscape, the in-descriptive murmurs and rustling, the work highlights the physical tactile experience of winemaking, from picking to pressing, to a longitudinal process of fermentation.
Pt. 1: Field work
Birds, Insects, teams of people cutting bunches from the vine, gathering grapes in boxes, a coffee break, measuring sugar, breathing.
Pt. 2: Cellar work
Crushing with feet, pressing, fermentation, punching down the cap, waves crashing, Carbon dioxide, Mosquitos, pumping over the juice, direct press juice fermenting in steel tank, driving. Moving tanks with a pallet jack, cleaning steel tanks and hosing them down. Four people on a production line labelling bottles, echoing through a warehouse. Crickets and Dogs barking.
With special thanks to:
Trish Nelson and Piero Crucitti of Gazzetta Wine, Jacopo Battista of Ajola.
The workers: Chiara Wallner, Delphine Petrini, Andrea Contardi, Michele Graziosi, Marilu Prowisiero, Loretta Bisegna and Marco Allegrini.
Also: Leila McAlister, Aditi Kapoor, Finn Smith Ogg, Alex Whyte and Heidi Nam Knudsen.
Trish & Piero make natural wine, in which no additions are made. Fermentation starts spontaneously via the natural yeasts present in the vineyards. The grapes are grown organically, and the cellar work is intuitive. Given that the grape varieties are typical of the region, the wines created are timeless—representative of those drunk by the local contadini throughout history.
